Here are the guidelines that you should follow before eating:

Switch off your phone, TV, and computer. These are distractions that will take your mind away from eating, which can do you no good.

Thoroughly wash your hands using an anti-bacterial soap.

Serve yourself half of what you usually eat, on a plate that is nice and clean.

Sit at your usual dining place, preferably in a cross-legged posture. Many Indians sit in this posture while eating their meals and there is a perfectly scientific reason why it is beneficial. When you sit in a cross-legged posture, your heart doesn't have to pump blood all the way to the end of your legs. Consequently, more blood can be utilized for digestion which begins in earnest as soon as you start eating food.

Thank the Almighty for blessing you with the food that you are about to eat. It might sound cliched, but there are many people in the world who don't get a meal everyday, let alone three meals. Even if you are doing well enough for yourself that three meals a day are guaranteed for you and your family for the rest of your lives, being able to eat them with your family who are all in good health is still a privilege, isn't it? So thank the Almighty for that.

Visualize the food that you are about to eat as something that is going to nourish you from within. Also, visualize how much you are going to enjoy it. This is crucial as it will put your body in a state of mind where it will be able to absorb all the nutrients from the food and get the most out of it.
